Zero Tolerance Policy

Braintree Dental Centre

At Braintree Dental Centre, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and professional environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. We have a zero tolerance approach to abusive, aggressive, or inappropriate behavior, and we reserve the right to take action against individuals who breach this policy.

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors will not be tolerated:

  • Verbal abuse – Swearing, shouting, threats, or offensive language towards staff or other patients.

  • Physical violence or aggression – Any form of physical intimidation, assault, or threatening behavior.

  • Discrimination or harassment – Including racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other form of discrimination.

  • Damage to property – Deliberate destruction or damage to practice property.

  • Persistent disruption – Repeated refusal to follow practice procedures or staff instructions.

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

If a patient or visitor engages in unacceptable behavior, the following actions may be taken:

1. Verbal Warning – A reminder of expected behavior.

2. Written Warning – A formal letter outlining the issue and potential consequences to the patient and NHS England.

3. Immediate Removal from the Premises – If necessary, the individual will be asked to leave.

4. Permanent Deregistration from the Practice – In serious cases, the patient may be removed from our list.

5. Police Involvement – Incidents involving violence, threats, or criminal behavior will be reported.

Appeals Process

If a patient wishes to appeal a formal warning or removal from the practice, their case will be reviewed by the Practice Manager or the Principal Dentist who was not involved in the original decision. They will assess the evidence and decide whether to uphold, modify, or revoke the decision. The outcome will be communicated to the patient in writing.

Warnings may be reviewed periodically upon request after a reasonable period of time. Each case is assessed individually.

Protecting Our Staff and Patients

Our team has the right to work in a safe, respectful environment, and our patients deserve care without fear of intimidation or disruption. This policy applies to all visitors, including patients, carers, and guests.
